Landmark in 2008 - Peace Turns Fifty - Let’s Celebrate
Lisa Stokes accepted the challenge of heading up the 50th Anniversary Committee last summer and as the year 2008 approaches she is ready to reveal a year long opportunity of celebrations. To help you plan to participate in the anniversary activities, Lisa has provided this detailed article of planned events for you to get excited about. Each month in the Spirit Newsletter and in the weekly Peace Pages more information for that month’s activities will be revealed. So plan ahead and let’s get this party started.
Happy 50th Anniversary Peace Lutheran Church!! Several events have been planned from January thru September since we are embarking on such a noteworthy achievement. We hope that you, your family and of course your friends will join in on the festivities. The events that are planned are tailored around everyone’s budget. Here’s a short outline so you can mark your calendars.
Jan. – 50th Anniversary Logo Contest
Feb – Time Capsule Dedication
March – Progressive Dinner Peace Style
April – Family Movie Matinee
May – Planting of a Commemorative Tree
June – Community Sale
July – Memories in the Making Photo Display
Aug – Cookbook Recipe Deadline
Sept. – Outdoor BBQ with Music (September 7th)

January 2008
Is there an undiscovered artist among us? If so, get your creative juices flowing! We are in search of an official Peace 50th Anniversary logo. Can you see it now, your artworks on display say on a Commemorative T-Shirt, a bookmarker, or perhaps featured as the cover of the 50th Anniversary Edition of Peace’s Cookbook? So get out your drawing boards and see what you can come up with. We will be collecting your entries thru January 20th. All entries will be posted in the gathering area. The members of Peace will then have the opportunity to select which logo will be the “official” 50th Anniversary Logo, with a vote to be held on Sunday, January 27th.

Dig out your memories of the past 50 Years. We will be embarking on a mission to mark Peace’s 50th Anniversary. We will be leaving a legacy for future generations; one of our goals is to gather items and create a time capsule. What has been important to you about Peace over the past years? Take a few minutes and dig out something of significance to include in our time capsule. There will be a box in the gathering area for you to drop off items. The time capsule will be sealed February 24th and not reopened until our 75th Anniversary.
March 2008
Did someone say Progressive Dinner? We will be doing a progressive dinner Peace style on March 1st. There will be a sign up sheet in the Gathering area.
April 2008
Family movie - there will be a sign up sheet in the Gathering Area for all of those who are interested in a Saturday matinee at Marley Station movies. Please indicate if you will to ride share, if necessary we will commandeer the Peace van.
May 2008
Peace will be planting a commemorative tree to mark the 50th Anniversary for Peace Church. Please join us on May 18th after the 11am service as we leave a living legacy for the future.
June 2008
Community Sale – Peace will be hosting a community sale for the parishioners of Peace Church. The price will be $10 per table. We will be advertising our event in the Penny Saver. Gather up some of your stuff and come set up and make a few bucks for yourself. If you are an independent business consultant, this would be the perfect time to get your name and your product out there. The exact date will be announced closer to the event.
July 2008
Memories in the Making Photo Display. We are looking to display photos from times past. Take a minute and dig out any photos from Peace’s past 50 years. They will be displayed on the main bulletin board in the Gathering area. Please put your name on the photo so they can be returned to you. If you have a few extra photos, leave them as well. We are going to put together a picture frame collage one from the past and one that’s current to hang in Peace’s halls.
August 2008
Imagine your name and your recipe in print. Peace Church hasn’t done a cookbook in quite some years. Maybe you have the original cookbook from years past and you live by the recipes, now is the time to get those tried and true recipes republished. Or perhaps you have something new and improved to contribute. There is a box in the Gathering area for you to drop off your recipes or you can e-mail them to lrt007@yahoo.com. Please put Recipe in the Subject. The more recipes we collect the better our book.
September 2008
As we come to the end of our 50th Anniversary Celebration we will be celebrating with an Outdoor BBQ with a Praise Band. Please come and join us on Sunday, September 7th on the church grounds for a time of fun and fellowship.
October 2008
We will continue our celebration and link it to a special breakfast on Reformation Sunday.
November 2008
We will celebrate Thanksgiving with much to be thankful for.
December 2008
We will wrap it all up with a Christmas Program to write home about.
