The Christian Education of everyone at Peace is personally important to me. Every summer I find myself reviewing curriculum, searching for teachers, leaders and helpers and of course praying.
The praying is to help me make the correct choices for children, youth and adult studies. The praying is for a motivated and creative Sunday School Staff who can grow themselves as they impart teachings of the Christian faith to our children, to the future leaders of the congregation as well as nurture the busy adults who don't always take the time to feed their soul with the Word of God.
The praying is also for the congregation to remember Peace’s Prayer Covenant because as we pray as a church things happen, things grow and things bloom.
This year in Sunday School we will return to two tracks for Adult Study. One will focus on the more basic things such as, how to use and find things in your Bible, The Lutheran Handbook and other fundamentals. The other track will take a more in depth look at Angels, specific books of the Bible as well as contemporary topics.
The Middle School and Youth Sunday School class will reflect the make up of our Youth Group and will follow a more flexible schedule allowing the youth to visit a nursing home, take a serious look at a topic, work with a contemporary topic, share their faith, develop their ministry and have a good time doing it.
There will be special Music based on the Liturgical Season, more singing at worksop (all services), special curriculum for the diaper free 2 and 3 year olds as well as the tradition Sunday School for Pre-K to Grade 5.
New material from the Firelight II Series will give teachers flexibility allowing them to linger on a topic for up to four weeks. We will be looking at Kingdom Stories, those classic Bible stories every kid should know as well as a Circle of Seasons where an exploration for the Church Year will take place.
Confirmation will use a new resource from Augsburg Publishers entitled “Here We Stand” . This innovative program will encourage the use of the internet for study as well.
So now is the time for me to ask for you to pray as well. To pray for Peace in general and for Sunday School in particular: pray for strong and dedicated leadership, pray for kids who can’t wait to come to Sunday School, pray that the Holy Spirit will descend on this place called Peace and give us the strength and support to grow and bloom.
Pray that we live up to our mission to bring Christ’s love to all people and all people to Christ’ love.
I remain, dedicated to the service of the Lord.
